What it’s like
Open heathland to wander, free to get in, with heather turning purple across the site in summer.
This is a stretch of Norfolk heathland you walk across rather than an attraction you queue for. There's no play equipment or visitor centre to speak of, just paths through heather and gorse, and in summer that heather turns the whole place purple, which is the bit worth timing a visit around.
It suits kids who are happy on their feet rather than being pushed or carried far, since the paths are graded access level 2, meaning wheelchairs and heavy buggies will find some of it tough going. There's a small free car park tucked in the southwest corner, which is handy given there's no charge to get in either.
Dogs are welcome as long as they're on a lead, so if you're bringing the family dog along with the kids it's an easy one to combine. Bring your own snacks though, there's nothing on site in the way of food, so pack a flask and something for little hands if you're planning to stay out for a proper walk.
