What it’s like

Learn actual Charleston steps in a course or a party package, solo dancing welcome, no partner needed.

This is a dance school built around one thing: Charleston, plus a bit of Solo Jazz and musicals-style routines if you fancy branching out. Courses run open level, so a total beginner and someone who's danced for years end up learning the same routine side by side, and every term they teach something new so it never goes stale for regulars.

You don't need to turn up with a partner. The courses are solo dancing, which takes the usual awkwardness of "who do I get paired with" off the table entirely. Classes cover the basic steps and vocabulary of the genre, patterned movement and travelling steps, building towards a short routine by the end of the six weeks.

If it's a party you're after rather than a regular course, the package is an hour and a half: warm up, some games, then a simple Charleston routine to take home. They reckon early afternoon is the sweet spot, and if you're planning a vintage makeover alongside it, do the dancing first while everyone's still got the energy for it. A cocktail's fine to toast with afterwards, but they're clear this is a dance class first, so water or soft drinks are what they actually recommend during the session itself.

One thing to know before you book: courses are non-refundable. They will transfer you to a different course if the dates don't work, but you won't get your money back, so it's worth being fairly sure of your six weeks before you commit.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No, the courses are solo dancing, so you can come alone or with a group and it works the same.

Can beginners join, or do we need experience?

Open level courses are for everyone regardless of age or level. You'll pick up the basic steps and a short routine over the six weeks.

Can we get a refund if we can't make it?

Courses aren't refundable but they are transferable, so email them and they'll move you to another course.

How long does a party session last, and when's the best time to book?

Party packages run for an hour and a half, including warm up and games. Early afternoon, around 1 to 4pm, is their most popular and recommended slot.
