What it’s like

Free country park with a flying fox, farm-themed play tower, animals to spot and a river trail to walk.

The play park is the obvious draw: a flying fox, a farm-themed multi-play tower, climbing frames, swings and a slide, plus an accessible swing so that's not an afterthought. Once that's done, there's a sensory garden with different textures, scents and sounds to wander through, a decent change of pace if the frame's got a queue of older kids waiting their turn.

Beyond the play equipment there's proper ground to cover. The River Avon trail links to the John Muir Way, so a play park visit can turn into a longer walk if the weather's playing along, and Newparks Farm gives you rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and a scatter of birds and poultry to point at on the way round. There's a sculpture and poetry trail too, good for slowing an older kid down between the running-about bits.

Entry itself is free, which is rare for a park with this much packed in, but parking will sting a bit: £2 for up to 90 minutes or £4.50 for the full day. Blue Badge holders get a free annual pass, which is a decent gesture if you're a regular. The café runs 10am to 4pm daily, so build lunch around that window rather than turning up at half four expecting a sandwich.

It's all outdoors, so this one lives or dies on the weather a bit more than most. There's an accessible toilet and baby change at the courtyard, and picnic tables if you'd rather bring your own food than rely on café hours.

Are there animals to see?
