Moss End Garden Village
WHERE
Bracknell
What it’s like
A garden village with reef aquariums, reptiles, birds of prey and a pottery studio all under one roof, plus free parking all day.
You wander between a genuinely odd mix of things here rather than one big attraction. ReefKeeper has the reef-inspired aquariums to gawp at, The Jungle Reptiles has the scaly stuff, and Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre runs bird of prey experiences if you want to see something with talons up close. It's less a single day out and more a collection of small ones stitched together, which suits a family that gets bored of any one thing after twenty minutes.
Top of the Pots does pottery making if you fancy getting the kids' hands messy in a good way, and the Old Grain Barn Antiques is there for the adults to poke around while someone else watches the reptiles. Dogs are welcome across the site too, so it's not a leave-the-dog-in-the-car kind of trip.
Food isn't an afterthought here. There's a café, a deli, an Italian restaurant and a cake maker, with outdoor seating if the weather's playing along. Parking is free with over 100 spaces and no time limit, which takes the pressure off rushing round to beat a machine.
Hours shift with the seasons: 9am to 5pm through January and February, stretching to 5.30pm from March to December, with shorter Sunday hours of 10am to 4pm. Bank holidays run 10am to 5pm. Worth remembering that the independent concessions on site sometimes keep their own hours, so the falconry centre or pottery studio might not match the main site times exactly.
