What it’s like

Five water slides, an erupting volcano and a pirate ship in the pool, plus a spa for the grown-ups if you can prise yourself away.

This is a pool with a full theme park bolted on. Five interactive slides, Aqua Splash, Cannon, Storm Chaser and Maelstrom among them, mean older kids will be doing laps of the stairs before you've dried off from the last go. There's a volcano that erupts in the pool area and a pirate ship to clamber over, which is the sort of detail that gets talked about on the way home.

Younger ones get the Little Corals area and a splash pad, so you're not watching a toddler get swept towards the big slides by mistake. It's worth saving the volcano and pirate ship as the bit you mention last, since that's what tends to stick.

Booking is required, which is a small faff when you just fancy a swim, but it does mean you're not queuing on arrival. Opening hours swing about a fair bit through the week, closed Tuesday and Wednesday, an early 8am start at weekends, and a later 10:30 opening on Thursdays.

If you fancy turning the visit into an actual adult treat, the Coral Spa runs alongside the pool with saunas, a Japanese steam room, spa pool and heated sun loungers. Birthday parties run on weekday afternoons and both weekend mornings and afternoons, with weekend parties including food, main pool, splash pad and the giant slides.
