What it’s like

Volunteer miniature railway in Wilton Park - weekend rides Easter to October from about £2.

Melton Mowbray Miniature Railway runs through Wilton Park on weekend afternoons through the warmer months. Volunteers run the trains, and a ticket gets you two circuits of the track - a proper little ride for kids who love steam and diesel minis.

Opening is Saturday and Sunday from Easter to October, roughly 10am to 4pm, weather and volunteer cover permitting. Check their Facebook page before you set off if the forecast looks rough. Rides are about £2 a person for two circuits.

Wilton Park has space to wander before or after the trains, so it works as a short Melton stop rather than a full-day outing on its own.
