Free site entry, £3 parking and a flat, buggy-friendly 25-acre site with steam trains, old buses, mini railway rides and a dog-friendly café.
This is a 25-acre heritage site at Ruddington combining a working steam and diesel railway with a heritage bus depot, miniature railway, model railway/museum exhibitions and a café, all next to Rushcliffe Country Park. Site entry is free, so you only pay for the experiences you choose: standard heritage train fares start from around £15 per adult return, with a £1 child fare on selected family and half-term events, plus £1.50 rides on the separate ground-level miniature railway. Families can expect a flat, step-free site with wheelchair-accessible platforms and ramped access onto trains, making it buggy and wheelchair friendly throughout. There's a picnic area, a dog-friendly heritage café serving hot drinks, light lunches and homemade cakes, and a gift shop. A children's playground near the picnic area is listed as coming soon. Indoor spaces, the bus depot, museum, café and model railway exhibitions, mean there's plenty to do under cover if the weather turns. The railway itself runs 8 miles from Ruddington to Loughborough behind steam or diesel locomotives, with special events like fish-and-chip suppers, cream teas, galas and a Santa Special running throughout the year on top of standard Wednesday/Sunday operating days. The site recommends allowing 3–4 hours, though many visitors make a full day of it. Parking is £3 via the RingGo app, and it's a short walk (about 15 minutes) from Ruddington village where buses run from Nottingham city centre.
