What it’s like
This one's for the grown-ups' night out list, not the kids: an adults-only jazz bar with live music, cocktails and a free pizza deal.
Worth being straight about this one. It's not a family venue. Under-18s aren't let in after 7pm, so if you were hoping for an early evening gig with the kids in tow, this isn't it. Where it earns a spot on a parents' site is as the thing you book for yourselves once the babysitter's sorted.
The draw is live jazz most nights, with a happy hour that changes shape depending on the day. Buy two drinks and you get a free pizza thrown in, or you can go for two house cocktails for £15 instead. Tuesday is the generous one, with happy hour running the whole evening from 6 to 11pm. Other nights it's a tighter window, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday get 6-7:30pm, Friday's a later 7-9pm, and Saturday is squeezed into 5-6pm, so if you're going for the deal it pays to check which day gets you the best run at it.
There's also a set-price date night on Wednesdays, a stage-side table for two with a bottle of house wine or two cocktails, a pizza and garlic bread for £30, with the live music running 8 to 11pm. That's the one to book if you want a proper sit-down evening rather than just propping up the bar.
Wheelchair access needs a phone call ahead so they can get a ramp out, and there's no ground floor toilet, which is a genuine faff worth knowing before you turn up. Doors open from 6pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturdays, running through to 1am on the later nights.
