What it’s like

Live gigs in Manchester's Northern Quarter that under-16s can come to, as long as they've got an adult with them.

This is a proper gig venue, not a kids' venue that happens to allow children in. The "Beat the Jams" shows are pitched at 10 and up, and the site is clear that anyone under 16 needs a responsible adult with them, while unaccompanied 16 to 17-year-olds need photo ID on the door. So if you're bringing a music-mad ten-year-old, you're going too, which is no bad thing if you fancy the night out yourself.

Doors open at the time on your ticket, but that's not the start time, it's just when you're let in, so don't rush a tea to make an early slot. A single show is £13, or £42 for a season ticket if this is going to be a regular thing. Tickets are digital only, a QR code on your phone, so there's no paper ticket to lose in a coat pocket.

Any bag bigger than A4 has to go in the cloakroom at £2 a go, card only. There's a bar doing beers, wines and freshly made pizzas, which covers dinner if you time it right, though it's not exactly a kids' menu. The venue's in the Northern Quarter, a walk from Piccadilly and Victoria stations, and it's fully accessible with level access and a platform lift to the stage.

Worth knowing this isn't an all-ages venue every night. Club nights are strictly 18+, so check what you're booking is the family-friendly gig and not a late one that just happens to share the building.

Plan your visit

What age is this suitable for?

Gigs here are 10 and up. Anyone under 16 has to be with a responsible adult, and unaccompanied 16 to 17-year-olds need photo ID on the door.

How much are tickets?

£13 for a single Beat the Jams show, or £42 for a season ticket. Booking fees and a restoration levy get added on top.

Do we need to book ahead?

You can buy online or turn up to the box office, but if a show sells out that's it, no tickets on the door unless the event page says otherwise.

What time should we arrive?

Doors open at the time on your ticket, but that's just when you're let in, not when the show starts.

Is there food?

There's an on-site bar with freshly made pizzas alongside the drinks.

Is it accessible for wheelchairs?

Yes, level access throughout, accessible toilets and a platform lift to the stage. Companions go free if you give a week's notice.

Can we bring bags?

Anything bigger than an A4 sheet has to go in the cloakroom, £2 a item, card or contactless only.

Is parking easy?

There's limited on-street parking, plus several public car parks a short walk away that are cheaper and sometimes free at weekends.

Are all the events suitable for kids?

Club nights are strictly 18+, so it's the Beat the Jams and similar all-ages gigs you want, not the late club listings.
