What it’s like
Bouldering walls up to 4.5m to climb without ropes, plus yoga classes, in an indoor centre with its own café.
This is a bouldering centre, so no harnesses or ropes, just walls up to 4.5m and crash mats underneath. Kids get the satisfaction of working out a route themselves and topping out, and there's enough wall here that a confident seven-year-old and a nervy first-timer can both find something to climb. The site lists it as suitable from age nought, though realistically the walls will suit kids who can already follow instructions and take a fall sensibly.
Adults are £9, under-18s (along with students and over-65s) get in for £8, which is fair for climbing but adds up fast if you're bringing more than one child and staying to climb yourself. Hours shift through the week: weekday afternoons open at midday on Wednesday to Friday, evenings only on Monday and Tuesday from 5pm, and weekends are a shorter midday to 6pm window. Bank holidays run 10am to 6pm, which is handy if you're stuck for something indoors when the weather's against you.
There's a café on site doing meals, hot drinks and baked goods, so you're not having to leave for lunch or a coffee break between climbs. Yoga classes run too, which is a decent way to fill the hour while your kids are on the wall rather than watching from the side.
