What it’s like

Outdoor 720-metre kart racing near Nottingham, in 15-minute sessions from £25.

This is a proper outdoor circuit, not a warehouse loop: 720 metres of hairpins, straights and twists on the edge of Nottingham. Arrive-and-drive sessions get you into a hired kart with no fuss, and if you've got your own kart there's an owner-driver rate too. Session length is 15 minutes a go, or you can book two back to back if one lap isn't enough.

It's £25 for a single 15-minute session, £35 for two, and owner-drivers pay £30 a kart. Race packages start from £35 if you want to book by phone and ask what's included. There's no minimum age faff to remember beyond one number: you need to be 8 to drive.

Wednesday afternoons in summer bring driver coaching classes for younger drivers, which is worth knowing if you've got a keen 8 or 9-year-old rather than just a lad who wants to go fast once and call it a day. Thursdays are mini bikes instead of the usual karting, so check which day you're booking for if you want the standard track experience. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and Wednesdays close for the winter months, so weekends are the reliable bet whatever time of year it is.

There's a café on site for teas, coffees and light meals, but it only opens at weekends. Midweek you'd need to call ahead and prebook food, so don't turn up starving on a Wednesday or Friday expecting a sandwich to just appear.
