What it’s like
Adult-only outdoor go-karting near Newark, on twin-engine karts, with no licence needed but everyone must be 17 or over.
This one's for the grown-ups, not the kids. ELK Motorsport is strictly 17 and over, so if you're picturing a family birthday party on karts, that's not what's on offer here. What you get instead is outdoor racing on twin-engine karts, either a casual practice session or a proper competitive event against other drivers.
You don't need a driving licence, just trainers and casual clothes. They supply the helmet, balaclava, gloves and race suit, and if the weather turns they hand out wet suits and carry on regardless, only stopping for genuinely extreme conditions. Sessions are booked and paid for in advance through the website, no turning up on spec.
Timing depends on what you book. A short arrive-and-drive session can be over in fifteen minutes, while a full grand prix with twenty drivers runs to about two and a half hours. Bigger groups work out at roughly an hour for every ten drivers, so a big work do or stag party could eat up most of an afternoon. If you want the track exclusively to yourselves, you'll need at least twenty drivers, otherwise you're racing alongside other groups on an open session.
Group bookings go through a phone call, with a £20 per person deposit and the option to add extra drivers up to the cap later on. It's opposite Newark Showground, handy if you're coming from Lincoln or Nottingham, though there's nothing here for anyone under 17, karting included.
