What it’s like
Free storytimes, rhyme sessions and craft groups in a Lisburn library with an actual Harry Potter day thrown in.
Storytime here runs for ages 4 to 8, and there's a separate Rhythm and Rhyme session for the 0 to 4s where you sit in with them, which is the one to go for if you've got a toddler who needs the words and actions rather than a story sat still. Both are free, and free is doing a lot of work when you're trying to fill a wet Tuesday morning.
Beyond the regular sessions there's a proper spread of stuff for older kids and adults alike: Go On computer classes if anyone needs a hand with digital skills, book discussion groups, knitting and craft groups, and even piano playing sessions. The Harry Potter Day is the standout though, a full adventure with a potions lesson, which is the sort of thing that turns a library visit into an actual event rather than just somewhere to swap books.
The building is wheelchair accessible and sensory-friendly, and there's wifi if you need to get some work done while the kids are occupied. One thing to flag: the escalator from the first to second floor isn't currently working, so if you're relying on it with a buggy or can't manage stairs, plan around that.
Adults get an extra layer here too. There's an Out of Hours service letting registered members over 18 use the library outside normal opening times, with self-service access to wifi, printing, study space and book borrowing via a PIN and card at the front door.

Need to know

- 0 to 8, with rhyme sessions for the little ones and storytime for the rest
- The escalator between the first and second floor isn't working at the moment, worth knowing if you've got a buggy or use the stairs badly
- Rhythm and Rhyme is a sit-in session with your child, not a drop-and-go
- There's wifi on site if you want to work while the kids are at a session
- Craft, knitting and piano sessions run alongside the kids' programme if you fancy your own thing
Plan your visit
Is it free to come to storytime or Rhythm and Rhyme?
Yes, both are free sessions, storytime for 4 to 8 year olds and Rhythm and Rhyme for 0 to 4s with a parent.
Do we need to book?
There's nothing here about booking, so it sounds like these are regular drop-in sessions.
Is the building accessible?
It's wheelchair accessible and sensory-friendly, though the escalator from the first to second floor is currently out of action.
What's the Harry Potter Day about?
It's a full adventure day including a potions lesson, a bit more of an event than a normal library visit.
Can adults use the library outside normal hours?
If you register as an Out of Hours member you can get in with a PIN and card for wifi, printing, study space and borrowing books, though that's an 18 plus service.
