What it’s like

Free rhymes, Lego and homework help for kids, with regular sessions running right through the week.

This is a proper community library with a full run of kids' sessions rather than just shelves to browse. Little ones from birth to four get Rhythm and Rhyme, all songs, stories and rhymes, and it's a nice gentle reason to get out of the house on a weekday morning. Fridays bring Lego Club, which needs no explanation to anyone who has ever handed a child a tub of bricks and gone quiet for twenty minutes.

Older kids are looked after too. There's a reading group for 7 to 9 year olds once a month, on the third Monday, and Homework Club runs twice a week in term time for 8 to 12 year olds, useful if you're trying to get maths done somewhere that isn't the kitchen table. Everything here is free, which makes it an easy one to build a week around rather than a special trip you have to plan for.

Opening hours shift through the week: Monday afternoons and evenings, then mornings to teatime Tuesday to Friday, and a shorter window on Saturday. It's wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet and baby change on site, and there's parking including a blue badge space, so getting in with a buggy or a wheelchair shouldn't be a faff. Beyond the kids' stuff there's wifi, computers, a photocopier and study space, handy if you're combining a library run with your own bits and pieces.
