What it’s like

Meet, feed and walk llamas and alpacas, then finish with cake and refreshments on the picnic benches.

This is a proper hands-on animal experience rather than a look-through-the-fence one. The Meet and Greet gets you feeding, petting and a stroll with your own llama, and it's built for families with kids aged 5 and up, so it's not one for toddlers. You get a safety brief first, then interaction time, then cake and refreshments on picnic benches to round it off. It runs about 45 minutes to an hour, which feels right for the age group, long enough to bond with an animal without a five-year-old flagging halfway through.

If you fancy something more energetic, the Llama and Alpaca Walk is a 2 mile private trek along country lanes into a bit of woodland, finished off with cake in the picnic area or to take away. That one's pitched at older participants though, 14 for llama walks and 16 for alpacas.

The prices sting a bit: £37 for an adult and £23 for a child on the Meet and Greet, and £45 a head for the longer walk. Groups are capped at six per slot, and if there's three of you or fewer you might get grouped with another booking unless you pay extra to keep it private. Spectators need a ticket too.

There's also home visits and venue visits if you want the llamas to come to you, starting from £95, though venue visits need a postcode check first to see if it's doable. Everything's weather dependent, which is worth bearing in mind if you're booking the walk especially.
