What it’s like

Kayak or paddleboard the River Soar, with trips that finish at a riverside pub for lunch.

This is river time, not a static activity centre. Kids from 5 up get into single, double or triple kayaks (or a paddleboard if they fancy standing up) and head off down the River Soar, with the shortest trip a two-hour Explorer and the longer ones stretching to four hours if you fancy paddling to a pub for food.

That "moderate fitness" line in the small print isn't just box-ticking. You'll duck under low bridges, sometimes lying flat if the water's high, and haul the kayak over weirs and locks yourself. Fine for a confident eight-year-old with a parent alongside, less fun if anyone in the boat tires easily. Under-18s need a parent or guardian with them throughout.

Money-wise it starts at £30 for a child on the Explorer and climbs to £70 for the Kayak & Camp trip, with adults a bit more across the board. You pay in full when you book and 20% of that is non-refundable, so it's not a "we'll see how the weather looks" kind of booking. There's no changing room on site, just toilets, so turn up already dressed for getting wet.

The Paddle To The Pub trip is the one worth building a day around: you paddle down, eat at the Navigation Inn (their own recommendation, and you book that separately), then paddle back. Go slow near the end and the £5-per-15-minutes late return fee will find you, and a snapped paddle or dunked boat comes with its own charge.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Trips start at £30 for a child on the Explorer, £35 for an adult. The longer Paddle To The Pub and Picnic & Paddle trips run £50 to £75 depending on age and package.

How long do the trips last?

The Explorer is two hours. Paddle To The Pub and Picnic & Paddle both run for four hours.

Is there a minimum age?

Five years old, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian with them on the water.

Do we need to book in advance?

Full payment is taken at booking and 20% of it is non-refundable, so it's worth being sure of your date before you pay.

Is food included?

No, food and drink at the pub stops aren't part of the price. You book that separately with the pub itself, and they recommend the Navigation Inn for the end of the trip.

What if we're late back or damage the kit?

Late returns cost £5 per 15 minutes per craft. Damage runs from £50 for a lost paddle or buoyancy aid up to £400 for a broken boat.
