What it’s like
A trailer safari past Highland cows and lambs, with a proper lambing experience if you time it right.
You climb into a 14-seater all-weather trailer and get towed round a working farm, close enough to the Highland cows and calves for photos and near enough the ewes and lambs to feel it. There's a running commentary on the farm machinery and the wildlife you might spot along the way, hen harriers and buzzards included, and if you catch the lambing experience you actually get to feed a lamb yourself, which the trailer safari alone doesn't offer.
It's not for the very young. Under-fives aren't allowed on due to seatbelt and insurance rules, so this is one for the five-plus crowd who can sit still in a trailer seat and are old enough to actually take in what they're looking at. Every under-16 needs a paying adult with them too, so there's no dropping the kids off for an hour.
Booking has to happen 48 hours ahead since it's a working farm fitting tours around actual farm work, though they'll sometimes squeeze you in later by phone if a tour isn't full. There's no food or drink allowed during the experience itself, though you get a complimentary hot or cold drink at the end and there's a vending machine with local home baking if you fancy something afterwards. Parking's free and flat, which matters if you're wrangling a pushchair or a wheelchair, though the trailer itself has no wheelchair anchor points.
Bear in mind it runs whatever's happening outside, and there are no refunds for wet weather, so pack for it. It's also not on a public transport route.

Plan your visit
How old do kids need to be?
Five and up. Under-fives aren't allowed on due to seatbelt and insurance requirements on the trailer.
Do we need to book ahead?
Yes, 48 hours in advance as standard since it's a working farm planning around actual farm jobs. If a tour isn't full they'll sometimes take a late booking over the phone.
Do the kids get to feed any animals?
Only on the Lambing Experience, where everyone gets a go at feeding a lamb. The Farm Trailer Tour gets you close to ewes, lambs, Highland cows and calves for photos but no feeding.
Is there anywhere to eat?
Food or drink is allowed during the experience itself. You get a complimentary hot or cold drink at the end, plus a vending machine with home baking.
Is there parking?
Free parking on site, on a flat surface, with room for cars, camper wagons and buses.
What happens if it rains?
It runs as an all-weather experience regardless, and there are no refunds for wet weather, so dress for the outdoors.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
The surfaces are flat and both manual and electric wheelchairs have been on experiences before. There are no anchor points in the trailer yet, so a wheelchair user would need to be able to transfer in the way you would into a car.
Can you bring dogs along?
Dogs on the premises apart from assistance dogs by prior arrangement.
