What it’s like
A working farm day of sheep dog demos, shearing displays and tractor trailer rides out to see the animals in their fields.
This is a proper working farm, not a soft play with a couple of goats bolted on. You get sheep, lambs, cows, calves, pigs, chickens and horses to meet, plus working collies doing what working collies do. The sheep dog demonstration and the shearing display are the two things that'll actually stick in a kid's head, watching a dog move a whole flock about is more entertaining than it sounds on paper.
The tractor trailer ride is the bit worth saving for the end. It takes you out into the fields to see the animals where they actually live, rather than everything being penned up right by the entrance. There are competitions too, which the site doesn't spell out in detail but sounds like the sort of thing that'll keep older kids invested for a bit longer.
Entry itself is free, which is the pleasant surprise here, but you do need to book ahead rather than just turning up. Once a year there's an Open Farm Sunday, run with LEAF, and every other October the farm hosts the Gartness Beer Festival, so it's not just a one-note animal visit if you time it right.
Nothing here about how long you'll want to give it or what's on offer for lunch.

Meet the animals, watch a sheep dog demonstration and a shearing display, then go out on a tractor trailer ride to see more animals in the fields. There are competitions running too.
Is there anything on besides the regular farm visit?
Once a year there's an Open Farm Sunday event organised by LEAF, and every second October the farm hosts the Gartness Beer Festival.
