What it’s like
Adults-only watercolour workshops and one-day sessions, and the studio throws its doors open each June for Harrow Open Studios.
This is adults only, so leave the kids at home: the workshops and classes are for over-18s only. What you get is watercolour teaching in a working studio, either as a one-day session or as a course of classes, and you'd be painting rather than watching someone else do it. If you've ever wanted to learn how washes and layering actually work, a full day with your own brushes is the way in.
The one to plan around is June. The studio opens to the public for Harrow Open Studios, so you can walk in, see the work on the walls and get a proper look at where the classes happen, without committing to a course first. It's free to wander and it's the easiest way to work out whether the teaching style suits you before you part with money for a workshop.
Getting there is straightforward. Parking is free on site, with Morrisons as the overflow if it's full, and Hatch End station is a seven-minute walk. The H14, H12 and 182 all stop outside. It's indoors, which matters more in February than June.
The website's own answers are mostly about buying prints rather than the classes. Payment is by major credit cards and PayPal, and if you're ordering an unmounted print or an original, standard UK shipping is free by Signed for Royal Mail. Framing is an option at £45 to £85 depending on what you pick, plus £9.99 UK postage or £15.00 to Ireland.
