WHERE

London

What it’s like

A strictly 18+ jazz and live music venue in London, so this is one for a night without the kids.

Worth saying straight away: this one's not for the children. Jazz Cafe is 18+ only, no exceptions, so if you're looking for a family day out you can stop reading here and save it for a babysitter night instead.

For the grown-ups, it's doors from 7pm on weeknights and Sundays, stretching to 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. The live music itself doesn't usually start until 60 to 90 minutes after doors open, so it's a proper sit-down-with-a-drink-first sort of evening rather than turn up and the band's already on. There's a restaurant on site with gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options, though the tables are fixed at two or four seats and can't be pushed together, which is a faff if your group doesn't divide neatly.

It's an older building, so accessibility has some real limits. There's one step at the entrance with a ramp the door team can put down, an access area by the stage for anyone who can't stand for long periods, and an accessible toilet with a Radar key needed. But there's no lowered bar access and no dedicated route through, so if that matters you'd want to arrive early and speak to the team on arrival.

Once you're in, that's it. There's no re-entry after leaving, so nip out for a cigarette or some air and you'll be queuing again to get back in.
