What it’s like

Free rhymes, songs and a Lego Club that turn a library visit into a proper morning out.

Rhythm and Rhyme is the one to build a Thursday morning round: rhymes, songs and stories for the 0-4s, and it costs nothing. Once your child's past the board book stage there's Lego Club for the 6 plus crowd, and family games sessions for ages 4 to 9, so there's an actual reason to come back once storytime stops being cool.

It's not just a kids' stop either. There are computers, wifi and a photocopier if you need to sort something out while you're there, plus a study area and exhibition space if the visit runs longer than expected. Baby change and an accessible toilet are on site, and it's wheelchair accessible throughout with blue badge parking.

Hours are a bit of a puzzle to remember: 10 to 5 Monday to Wednesday, a late one on Thursday from 1 to 8, then a shorter 10 to 4 window Friday and Saturday. It's shut Sundays, so don't plan a wet Sunday afternoon around it. There's no booking link listed, which suggests you can just turn up for the activity sessions rather than reserve a slot.

Over Christmas it closes for four days running, from Christmas Eve through to the 28th of December 2026, and again on New Year's Day. Otherwise it's free, it's indoors, and between the rhyme sessions and Lego Club there's a decent stretch of the week covered for under-tens.
