What it’s like

Proper pantomime and drama in a small local theatre, with a bar for interval drinks and ice cream in your seat.

This is a proper theatre doing proper pantomime, not a big touring production but a local one that takes itself seriously enough to have its own season tickets and a licensed bar. Kids watch pantomimes and family theatre here, and the pull is the same as any good panto: shouting at the villain, a story you half know already, and an interval where you can queue for an ice cream.

The building itself is accessible, with a disabled toilet and an induction loop for anyone who needs it, and they ask you to flag requirements when you book so they can sort things out properly rather than on the night. There's a bar doing coffee, tea, sweets and soft drinks alongside the alcoholic stuff, and you can pre-order interval drinks, which is the kind of small detail that saves you fighting through a crowd at the break.

Parking is the one to plan around. Holme Street has limited space and you're mostly relying on town centre parking nearby, so if you're coming for an evening show it's worth building in a few extra minutes to find a spot and walk in.

If you go often, the season ticket is worth a look: £44, or £36 if you qualify for concessions, which cover the over 60s, full time students, disabled visitors, unwaged or under 26s. For a one-off panto trip you'd just book individual seats instead.
