What it’s like

A local theatre in Bingley putting on family shows like It's A Wonderful Life, with tickets you book ahead and can't get refunded.

This is a proper small theatre rather than a soft play or an attraction with a car park full of coaches, so what you are getting is a seat, a programme if you fancy one for a pound, and whatever's on that season. It's A Wonderful Life is the one pitched most clearly at families, with a child ticket at £11 and a family ticket at £46, which is the sort of price that makes you check the calendar twice before committing.

Booking is required and it all happens online, and here's the catch: it's non-refundable and there are transaction fees on top, so don't buy for a night you're not sure about. There's no getting your money back if the babysitter cancels. On the plus side, if you know you'll be going a lot, booking five or more BLT productions together as a "Book A Bundle" gets you 10% off and those tickets can be swapped to a different night if something comes up.

Getting there is easy if you're on the train, with Bingley station about three minutes' walk away, which beats hunting for parking. There are only two Blue Badge spaces and you can't book them ahead, so if you need one it's a bit of a gamble, and otherwise you're looking at on-street or council car park charges. Wheelchair users get spaces in the main auditorium and access via a side door with staff help, though it's worth knowing the Theatre Upstairs only gets wheelchair access from October.

Don't expect concessions to soften the price for BLT's own productions, they're upfront about keeping ticket prices competitive instead, and the only discount going is for under 16s at a Kaleidoscope production. It's a theatre that knows what it is and isn't trying to be an all-day-out.

Plan your visit

How much are tickets?

It depends on the show. A Wonderful Life is £16 for adults and £11 for a child, with a family ticket at £46, while standard adult tickets for other plays start around £13.

Do we need to book in advance?

Yes, booking is required and done online. Just know it's non-refundable and there's a transaction fee, so pick your date carefully.

Is there parking?

There are only two Blue Badge spaces and they can't be pre-booked. Otherwise you're paying for on-street or council car park spots.

Can we get a discount?

Not really, for BLT's own productions. They keep prices competitive instead of offering concessions, apart from under 16s at a Kaleidoscope production.

What if we're coming by train?

Bingley train station is about a three minute walk from the theatre, which is easier than the parking situation.
