What it’s like
A courtyard of bars, a records shop and a café that runs kids' art clubs and piano lessons by day, then gigs and cocktails by night.
This is one of those Sheffield spots that's a completely different place depending on when you turn up. In the daytime there's Birkana Breaks doing coffee and food, and that's when the family stuff happens: after-school art clubs, piano lessons from age six upward, and macrame or crochet workshops if your kid fancies making something with their hands instead of staring at a screen. Dogs are welcome during the day too, so it's an easy one if you've got a four-legged mate in tow.
Once the evening kicks in, it flips into gig and bar territory. Bar Takk opens from 4pm most weekdays and runs properly late on Fridays and Saturdays, and there's live music like the Attikk Presents nights, tickets from £7 early bird or £9 on the door. That's not a kids' evening though: under-18s have a 9pm curfew, so if you're bringing them to something with music involved, you're watching the clock.
Food-wise there's a fair bit going on. The kitchen does rotating takeovers, wood-fired pizza one week, tacos or vegan another, plus Grub Records & Wine has its own bar and there's even free pizza delivery from Netheredge Pizza Co if the on-site options don't grab you. It's step-free through the main archway, with a ramp for the one step up to the bar if you ask a member of staff, and there's an accessible toilet with baby changing round the back in the Birkana unit.
Toilets are the one bit that can be a faff. On busy Friday and Saturday nights, or during big events, the ground floor toilet queue gets long, so factor that in if you're there for an evening gig rather than the daytime workshops.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost?
Depends what's on. Event tickets like the Attikk Presents night are £7 early bird or £9 on the door, and cocktails are two for £16, or two for £13 if you get there in the early bird window from 4pm to 9pm.
Do we need to book?
There's no booking link listed, so it looks like a turn up and see how it goes situation for most things, though for a ticketed gig you'd want to sort that in advance.
Is it suitable for young kids?
The daytime art clubs, piano lessons and craft workshops are aimed at kids, with piano lessons starting from age six. The evening bar and gig side has a 9pm curfew for under-18s.
What's the deal with the curfew?
Anyone under 18 has to be out by 9pm. Worth planning around if you're heading to an evening event with the kids.
Is there food on site?
Yes, there's a kitchen doing rotating takeovers such as wood-fired pizza, tacos and vegan food, plus Grub Records & Wine and Birkana Breaks café. There's also free pizza delivery from Netheredge Pizza Co.
Can we bring the dog?
Dogs are welcome during the day.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
The entrance is a step-free archway, and there's a ramp for the one step up to the main bar if you ask staff. The accessible toilet with baby changing is in the Birkana unit at the rear of the courtyard.
What about toilet queues?
The ground floor toilets get busy on Friday and Saturday evenings and during big events, so don't leave it to the last minute.
What are the opening hours?
Bar Takk is closed Monday and Tuesday, open 4pm to midnight Wednesday and Thursday, 4pm to 3am Friday, midday to 3am Saturday and midday to 8pm Sunday. Birkana Breaks runs 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday.
