What it’s like

A river boat trip from Dartmouth to Greenway or Dittisham, with a one hour cruise if you'd rather stay on the water.

This is a ferry that doubles as a day out. Hop on at Dartmouth Town Pontoon and you can be dropped at Greenway Quay for the house and gardens, or carried on to Dittisham village, a proper little detour if you fancy a wander somewhere that isn't a car park. If nobody wants to get off anywhere, there's a one hour river cruise instead, which seems like the easiest option with a small child who just wants to watch the water go by.

The pricing is simple enough: a child return is £7.25, an adult return £9.75, and singles are a bit cheaper if you're only going one way. The river cruise is £5 or £7.50 depending which one you pick. None of that includes getting into Greenway House itself, though they say they'll pre book your timed entry ticket so it's ready when you dock, which is a nice touch given how popular that trip apparently gets.

Dogs and bikes are allowed on board, so it works as a proper outing rather than just a means of getting from A to B. Wheelchairs are welcome on the larger vessels and the crew will help you on, though everyone does need a degree of mobility to actually get aboard, worth bearing in mind if that's a factor for your group. Parking at Greenway Quay is limited.
