What it’s like

This is a pub first and a music venue second, or maybe the other way round depending on the night. What you can bank on is the food side: a proper pub menu with steaks, burgers, fish and chips, and vegetarian and vegan options too, plus a Sunday roast if you time it right. There's a beer garden for when the weather cooperates, and dogs are welcome on leads both inside and out, so it's an easy one if you're bringing the family dog along with the family.
It's open long hours, from 11am most days and later on Friday and Saturday nights. You don't need to book a table to get in, but they'll say themselves that booking ahead means less standing around waiting for a spot to clear.
Wheelchair access is listed as a feature, though the site's honest that some of their older buildings aren't as easy to get around as others. Wifi's on hand too if you need to get some work done over a coffee before the evening crowd arrives.
