What it’s like

Beginner watercolour and lino printing sessions in Brighton, from one-off £15 workshops to longer courses, with kids six and up welcome alongside an adult.

You sit down at a proper workshop table and learn one thing properly: watercolour painting, lino printing or drawing, pitched squarely at people who've never done it since school. Nobody's expected to know what they're doing, which takes the pressure off if your idea of art is a stick figure.

A single Beginner Watercolour Workshop or a weekly Lino Printing class is £15, which feels fair for a couple of hours of proper tuition rather than a quick craft table. If you want to go deeper there are weekend and four-week courses running £75 to £200, and a four-week lino printing course at Towner Eastbourne for £220, which is a bigger commitment but suits someone who wants to actually get good at it rather than just try it once.

Kids are allowed in, with a catch worth knowing before you book. Under-sixes have to share a ticket and a page with an adult, working on the same piece together, which is fine for a quiet six-year-old but a faff if yours wants their own space. Once they're past ten they can work independently in the class while the adult waits it out in the café next door. That gap between six and ten is where it gets a bit vague, so a chatty seven-year-old who wants to do their own thing might find it frustrating.

There's also a bespoke option for hen dos, birthdays and work wellbeing days, worked out at £20 per student per hour with a minimum spend of £250, which is more of an adult group booking than a kids' party format.

How much does it cost?

A single workshop like the Beginner Watercolour session or a weekly lino printing class is £15. Longer weekend or four-week courses run from £75 up to £200, and the four-week lino course at Towner Eastbourne is £220.

Can my child come along?

Children six and under need to share a ticket and work on the same page as an adult. Once they're over ten they can work on their own in the class while the adult stays nearby in the café.

I've never done any art before, will I be out of my depth?

No, every workshop is aimed at total beginners, so nobody's expected to have any previous experience.

What happens if I need to cancel?

More than 72 hours before, you get a full refund minus a small booking fee. Inside 72 hours you're refunded if the ticket resells, and genuine emergencies get transferred to a future course instead.
