What it’s like
Locked in a themed room with your team, racing to crack the clues before the clock runs out.
You and your team get shut in a themed room and have to find and solve a string of clues to get out again, with a games master watching on to keep things moving and safe. There's a choice of themes, Journey to Atlantis, Wild West, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland and Doctor Who among them, so you can pick something that suits the group rather than just booking whatever's free.
The pricing rewards a bigger team: two of you pay £33 each, three pay £30 a head, four £26, five £25, and by six players it's down to £24 each, so if you can rustle up a full team the per-person cost drops a fair bit. Each room takes 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on which one you pick. This is not one for younger children, mind. The minimum age is 8, and anyone under 16 needs a paying adult in the room with them.
If you fancy something outdoors, City Hunt sends you round the streets with an action pack and a digital map at £15 a player. The game itself runs 1.5 to 2 hours, but they suggest allowing 2.5 hours total once you add the briefing beforehand and time afterwards in their lounge and bar. It runs whatever the forecast, though severe weather can force a cancellation, and games aren't refunded if someone simply doesn't show.
Birthday parties are on offer too, from £22 a head for after-school slots on Monday to Thursday between 3 and 6pm, rising to £35 a head at other times, with groups of 10 or more getting a free birthday guest thrown in. It's card payments only at the venue, so don't turn up planning to pay cash. Assistance dogs are allowed in the games rooms, and a fair few of the rooms are built to take up to two wheelchair users at once.
