What it’s like
Lock your team in a room for an hour and see if you can puzzle your way out before time runs out.
You and your team get shut in a themed room for 60 minutes, working through codes, riddles and hidden clues to find the way out. It's built for groups of 2 to 6, and the price actually gets better the more of you there are, dropping from £27 a head for a pair down to £20 each if you can rustle up six people. Bring a big group and split the cost, or it's a pricier treat for two.
Set aside an hour and a half all told. You get a briefing before you go in, the hour in the room itself, then a chat afterwards about how you got on, and that debrief is worth staying for rather than legging it out the door. There's no dress code, so don't overthink what to wear.
This isn't one for younger kids. The puzzles are pitched at ages 10 and up, and anyone under 16 needs an adult in the room with them as part of the team, so it's really a job for older kids and teenagers who fancy a proper challenge alongside the grown-ups. Some of the rooms have low head-height or tighter spaces in places, which is worth bearing in mind if anyone in your group isn't keen on cramped corners.
There are two sites to choose from. Dock Street is ground floor and easy to get into, with two of its rooms, The Cabin and Escape the Seven Seas, built to be fully accessible. Parliament Street is spread over several floors with stairs only.
