What it’s like
Free to walk round a working frame workshop and gallery above Gerrards Cross, open Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
Free entry is the whole pitch here, and it's the sort of free that actually means free: you walk in, you look at the frames and the pictures, and nobody tries to sell you a ticket at the door. The gallery side of the name is the bit to save for last if you've got a child who likes looking at things properly, because that's where they'll slow down.
It's a workshop as much as a gallery, so expect the smell of cut wood and a bit of noise rather than a hushed room. Don't count on it filling an afternoon. An hour is realistic with a small child, and a nine to five window on a Tuesday to Saturday means you can fit it round a nap or a school pick-up without much planning.
The catch is parking at the workshop itself, which is limited, and £4 a car when you do get a space. That's a sting on top of a free entry, so if you're coming from the town centre on foot or by bus you're quids in.
It's indoors throughout, so a wet morning is a safe bet, and it's open Tuesday to Saturday only, closed Sunday and Monday.
