What it’s like
Art, pottery, music and a sea-themed sensory room for ages 8 to 24, with parent and carer sessions too.
This one's for the 8 to 24 crowd rather than the under-fives: art rooms upstairs and down, a pottery barn, and music and movement sessions. There's a sea-themed sensory room as well, plus a hideaway and space to play when a break from the making is what's needed. The site says the sessions suit young people who can focus on art for around ten minutes at a time, which tells you a lot about how the day is paced, and it's honestly good to see that said out loud rather than pretended otherwise.
It's run for young people who want a supportive, creative space to explore their wellbeing, including those navigating autism, ADHD, anxiety or depression, and there are 1:1 art and wellbeing sessions alongside the group ones. If you're not sure which of those your child would get on with, the team will talk it through with you and work out the right support, which is a nicer starting point than guessing from a list.
Parents and carers aren't left in the car park either. There are sessions for adults, including a Create & Chat group where you try the same creative activities your child does, so you get the pottery wheel rather than just the photographs of it. Booking runs through the venue itself and they list group bookings. There's a café on site too.
Worth knowing before you plan: this is strictly 8 to 24, so younger siblings can't come along, and the ten-minutes-at-a-time thing means it won't suit a child who wants to tear about for two hours. For the right young person it's a calm, genuinely creative few hours, and the sensory room is the bit to save for when things get busy.
