What it’s like

Two-screen cinema in the centre of Brighton with £3 child tickets, a Thursday baby session and a Tuesday toddler club.

Two screens, and a proper mix of what's on them. Any U, PG or 12A film has a £3 child ticket going on selected screenings, whatever the age, which is the kind of price that makes a rainy Tuesday afternoon an easy decision. If you've got a baby who won't sit through a normal showing, Thursdays at 11am is Watch with Baby, lights and volume dialled down, babies go free and adults only get in if they've got one with them. Tuesdays at 11am there's Toddler Time too, half an hour of preschool episodes rather than a full film, which is about the right length before a two-year-old starts climbing the seats.

There's also a relaxed screening on the calendar most weeks, some months a new release, sometimes a family film, sometimes a classic with an interval, all shown with the adverts stripped out, lights low and the audience free to get up and move whenever they need to. That's worth knowing about even if a "quiet cinema" sounds like a contradiction, because a screen where nobody minds if your child needs a break changes the whole visit.

Food-wise you're looking at popcorn and drinks upstairs, or Caccia & Tails downstairs for Italian street food and cocktails if the grown-ups fancy making a proper evening of it once the kids are in bed. You can't bring in hot food or outside alcohol, fair enough for a cinema. There's no parking on site, so budget a few extra minutes to walk from the car park 150 yards away, and remember Gardner Street goes traffic-free at weekends if you're pushing a buggy through.

One thing to flag for older kids: nobody under 18 gets in unaccompanied after 10pm, and there's no entry to anything ending after that time either, so a late showing with a teenager needs some planning around who's coming with them.

Plan your visit

How much are child tickets?

£3 for anyone 14 and under, on selected U, PG and 12A screenings, subject to availability.

Do we need to book ahead?

Booking isn't required, though there's an online booking option if you'd rather sort tickets before you arrive. There's an 85p booking fee per ticket online, which you avoid by paying in person at the cinema.

Is there anything for babies and toddlers?

Watch with Baby runs Thursdays at 11am for babies under one, and it's free for the baby. Toddler Time is Tuesdays at 11am, 30 minutes of preschool episodes rather than a full film.

What are the relaxed screenings like?

Lights stay low, volume's reduced and there are no adverts or trailers, and you can move around or step out whenever you need to. They run roughly monthly, alternating between new releases, family films and classics.

Is there parking nearby?

Not on site, but there's an NPC car park about 150 yards away on Church Road, and you can drop off right outside the front door.

What food is available?

Popcorn, hot and cold drinks, beer and wine and snacks in the main cinema, plus Caccia & Tails downstairs for Italian street food and cocktails. Outside hot food and alcohol aren't allowed in.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes, there are two wheelchair spaces in Screen 1 and one in Screen 2, both front row, with a lift to the first floor and accessible toilets on both levels. Free carer tickets are available and it's worth mentioning a wheelchair space when you book.

Can I bring my dog?

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome, and staff will arrange an aisle seat and drinking water if you let them know when booking.
