What it’s like
A drop-off youth club for 8 to 17s with sports, arts and gaming sessions costing a pound a go.
This is a youth club, not a family day out, so the drop-off part matters: your child goes in, you don't. Sessions run Monday and Tuesday evenings for 8 to 17s, with an extra Wednesday slot for 13 to 17s only. That Wednesday age line is a firm one, not a suggestion, because they sometimes run sexual health services and contraceptive advice alongside the youth work, so an 11-year-old can't tag along with an older sibling that day.
Inside, kids get free play in the outdoor space, sports, arts and crafts, and gaming, all for £1 entry, and that £1 covers any food that's part of the session too. There's also a Creative Tuesday session for younger ones (Sparks) at £6.50, a Disco Thursday, a Community Café on Wednesday afternoons for £1, and a cooking course on Thursdays. The pricing is the obvious win here: nowhere else are you getting an afternoon of activities for a pound.
Because it's open access, under-8s aren't accepted at all, and staff are upfront that they can't take responsibility for younger children in that kind of setting. Parents can't stay in sessions either, which is standard safeguarding practice since every adult on site needs a DBS check, but it's worth knowing before you turn up expecting to wait in a corner. If you want your child on a day trip, they'll need to have been coming to regular sessions for six weeks first, so it's not something you can book cold.
There's no on-site parking, though blue badge holders can park free on the streets nearby. An accessible toilet is on site, and most allergies or medical needs can be accommodated by staff trained in food hygiene and first aid.

How much does it cost?
Youth sessions are £1, which covers any food given out as part of the session. Creative Tuesday is £6.50, and the Wednesday Community Café is £1.
What ages can attend?
Monday and Tuesday youth sessions are for 8 to 17-year-olds. Wednesday sessions are restricted to 13 to 17s only, because sexual health services sometimes run alongside.
Can I stay with my child during the session?
No, parents and carers can't stay inside. All adults on site have to be DBS checked, so it works as a proper drop-off.
What do kids actually do there?
Free play outdoors, sports, arts and crafts, and gaming. Thursdays also have a disco and a cooking course.
Is there parking?
There's no on-site car park. Blue badge holders can park free on the streets next to the centre.
Can my child go on a day trip with the centre?
Only once they've been attending regular sessions for at least six weeks. It's about staff knowing the child well enough to keep them safe on an excursion.
My child has allergies or additional needs, is that a problem?
Staff are trained in food hygiene and first aid and say most allergies, medical and mental health needs can be accommodated.
