What it’s like

Adult courses and classes with a low-cost café on-site, running from free options for the unemployed to fee-paying instalment plans.

This is a place to sign up for a course rather than turn up on the day. There's a spread of adult learning on offer, and if you're unemployed or on a lower income, quite a few courses come free, which is the kind of detail that makes it worth a phone call before you assume the price will put you off.

If a course costs more than £200, you don't have to find it all in one go. Staff can set up instalments, though anything under that threshold needs paying upfront before you start. Missing the odd session for a holiday won't get you a refund, so if you've got term-time dates already booked it's worth mentioning to your tutor early rather than after the fact.

Changed your mind after enrolling? The refund rules are tiered and a bit fiddly: cancel before the course starts and you get most of your money back minus a £10 admin fee, cancel in the first two weeks and you can get a partial refund or switch courses free, and after that it drops to 80% then 50%, still with the admin fee attached. Transfers between courses cost £10 unless the centre itself makes the change.

The Better Together Café on-site does a proper meal deal, £6 for a main, pudding and a drink, or £5 without the pudding, which is a fair price for a lunch break between sessions. The building is wheelchair accessible and breastfeeding friendly, with high chairs available if you've got a little one in tow while you sort out enrolment.

How do I enrol on a course?

You contact the service directly for enrolment details.

Is there any discount if I'm unemployed?

Plenty of courses are free if you're unemployed and looking for work, or on a lower income.

Can I pay in instalments?

Only if the course is over £200. Anything cheaper needs to be paid upfront before you start, though staff can help set up an instalment plan for the pricier courses on 01332 956565.

What if I need to cancel or transfer?

It depends on timing. Cancel before the course starts and you get most of it back minus a £10 admin fee, and that percentage drops the longer you wait, with transfers costing £10 unless the centre makes the change itself.

Is there food on-site?

The Better Together Café does a meal deal, £6 with a pudding or £5 without, and it's reasonably priced for a lunch stop between classes.
