What it’s like
Sit at a wheel and throw your own bowl, or try hand building, in a two-hour studio session with glazing and firing done for you.
You get a seat at the wheel, a lump of clay, and someone showing you how to stop it wobbling into a mess. The studio runs proper wheel throwing courses as well as one-off taster workshops, so you can turn up for a single session or commit to something longer if the first go hooks you. There's also hand building and sculpture classes for anyone who'd rather shape things by hand than fight a spinning wheel, which is honestly the better starting point if you've never touched clay before.
Each session gives you two hours of studio time, which sounds generous until you realise most of it goes on getting the clay to behave rather than making the thing you pictured. That's part of the fun though, and the glazing and firing happen afterwards, off site.
They do family and group throwing parties too, with the glazing and firing included in that, so a birthday or a get-together can turn into an afternoon at the wheels rather than the usual games and cake. There's indoor seating and food on site, and the whole thing works for groups if you're bringing more than a couple of people along.
