What it’s like

A gallery with a sculpture garden to wander round, open six days a week if you fancy an easy browse with kids in tow.

This is a proper art gallery rather than a hands-on children's attraction, so don't expect activity tables or a soft play corner. What you get is a ground floor space and a sculpture garden you can wander through at whatever pace suits, which is handy if you've got a buggy or a toddler who wants to stop and look at everything twice.

The building's open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, so there's no early dash needed and no Sunday option if that's your usual day out. The ground floor and the sculpture garden are both fully accessible, with removable ramps at the front door and a permanent ramp down to the garden, which is more thought than a lot of galleries put in. The first floor is a different story though: it's only reachable by an outdoor metal staircase, so if you're pushing a buggy or using a wheelchair, that bit's off limits.

Given there's no mention of a café or anything laid on for children specifically, this reads as a shorter visit than a full day out, more of a stop on the way somewhere else than the main event. It'll suit parents who want a calm, quiet browse with older kids who can look at art without needing to touch it, or anyone popping in with a buggy for a wander round the garden.
