What it’s like
Tuft a 40cm rug with a real tufting gun in a 3.5-hour session, ages 10 and up, £129 each.
You walk in, pick from more than 90 yarn colours, and spend the next few hours working a tufting gun across a canvas that's already got your design traced onto it. Everyone makes their own rug, roughly 40 x 40 cm, and you glue, back and shave it during the session, so you go home with the finished thing the same day. That last bit is the bit kids remember: not the tufting, the carrying it out of the door.
Ages 10 and up for family sessions. The session is booked for 3.5 hours, though the site says most people finish in 2 to 3. £129 a person, which is a lot for a craft class, and there's no child rate, so a parent and a ten-year-old is £258 before you've parked. Worth knowing before you promise anyone a rug.
The design goes in 48 hours ahead, and that's a hard deadline, not a suggestion. Keep it bold: thick yarn swallows fine detail, so a simple shape beats a detailed portrait. Book online in advance, and book early if you want a weekend, because those slots go quickly. Cancelling inside 48 hours gets you 50% back or credit.
Snacks are included and there's no café, so plan lunch elsewhere. Drinks you bring yourself need confirming before you book. Parking on site is limited and paid; Carlyon Road has free on-street parking at weekends and on non-event days, and Alperton Tube is about an eight-minute walk.

How much is it?
£129 per person, whether it's a family session, a birthday or a hen party. There's no cheaper child price.
Do we need to book?
Yes, and in advance. Weekend slots fill up quickly, so don't leave it late.
What age do kids need to be?
10 and up for family sessions. Younger ones can't take part, and everyone in the group makes their own rug.
How long are we there?
The session runs 3.5 hours. Most people finish their rug in 2 to 3 of those.
Do we take the rug home the same day?
You do. You glue, back and shave it during the session and leave with it finished.
Do we need to bring a design?
Send it at least 48 hours before your session and it's pre-traced onto the canvas ready for you. Nothing else to bring.
I've never used a tufting gun, is that a problem?
It's built for complete beginners. Instructors guide you step by step through the whole thing.
How big is the finished rug?
Roughly 40 x 40 cm, depending on the design.
Can we do it as a birthday?
Private birthday and group sessions run for up to 10 people. You can bring your own cake at no extra fee, and groups of 6 or more can ask for the whole studio.
What about parking?
Limited paid parking on site. Carlyon Road has free on-street parking at weekends and on non-event days, and there's a Sainsbury's car park opposite.
Can we bring our own drinks?
Light snacks come with the workshop, but if you want to bring your own drinks you need to contact them before booking to confirm.
