What it’s like
Indian art workshops for 3 to 11s, from £5 a head, but you'll need to book ahead and chase them for party dates.
Mandalas, Madhubani and Rangoli: if your child's ever come home from school with a rangoli pattern and wanted to do a proper one, this is that. Workshops are the main thing, run as Creative Circle sessions where kids draw mandalas and do mindful mark-making, and the site makes a point of saying you don't need to be artistic or know the first thing about Indian culture to join in. That's the bit I like, because it means you can turn up with a seven-year-old who insists they can't draw and they'll still come out with something on the paper.
Ages run 3 to 11, and the workshops are described as beginner-friendly right across the board, from curious three-year-olds up to older adults living with dementia. So a four-year-old and a ten-year-old can be on the same activity without one of them losing interest, which isn't true of much at that age gap. There are kits to take home too, from about £10 for a tealight holder gift set up to £16 for a Madhubani set, if you want a rainy afternoon sorted rather than a one-off session.
Prices are per person, and the cheap end is Family and Community Events at from £5 a head. Creative Circle workshops are £12 each, which adds up quickly if you've got three kids, so check that before you book a party rather than a session. Family and community work is where the schools and libraries come in, and there's art in the park in the mix as well.
The catch is dates. Only one workshop date is shown online, and the parties, group events and Sip and Paint are all enquiry-only, with nothing bookable up front. So you ask, you wait, and you hope the date you want is one of the ones going. Worth knowing before you pin a birthday on it. Workshop places do need booking in advance.
