What it’s like
A free woodland walk through hazel copses, marshland and grassland, with spring flowers to spot and no entry charge.
Woodland walking is the whole point here. The paths take you through broadleaved woodland and hazel copses, opening out into grassland and marshy patches where the habitat changes underfoot. It's not dressed up with play equipment or a visitor centre, just a wood doing what a wood does, which is either exactly what you want or a bit plain depending on your kids.
Spring is when it earns its keep, with spring flowers along the woodland floor, and there's a second flush of ground flora later in the summer if you time a visit right. Younger kids who like spotting things over long walks will get more out of it than ones after a climbing frame, since there's outdoor play space but nothing structured beyond that.
It's free to get in, there's parking on site, and nobody's asking you to book ahead. That makes it an easy one to add to a weekend without much planning, though you're relying on the weather and your own sense of direction rather than any facilities once you're in there.
