WHERE

Glasgow

What it’s like

A live music venue in the city centre with gigs and club nights, not set up as a family day out.

This is a gig venue, not a children's attraction, so what happens depends entirely on what's booked in that night. There's no all-day play or activity for kids to get stuck into here. If you're bringing a teenager to see a band they're into, that's the kind of trip this suits, but it's not somewhere to fill a Saturday afternoon with younger children.

The building itself is worth knowing about before you book anything. It's a heritage building with a lot of stairs and no wheelchair access, which also means it's a real faff with a buggy or pushchair. If anyone in your group has mobility needs, or you've got a toddler you'd normally wheel around, this isn't the venue for that.

Getting there is easy at least. Glasgow Central is a few hundred minutes away on foot, Queen Street isn't much further, and St Enoch's underground and Buchanan Bus Station are both close by, so you've got options if you're coming in from outside the city.

Before you book, it's worth checking exactly what's on and who it suits. This is a venue built around whatever gig or club night is happening, not a space designed with children in mind, so the act on the bill matters more than anything else about the building.

Need to know

Wheelchairs
No wheelchair access due to heritage building status and many stairs to both venues
Getting there by bus or train
Glasgow Central train station a few hundred metres away
  • No wheelchair access at all, due to stairs and heritage building rules
  • Not a buggy-friendly venue if you're bringing a toddler
  • Well placed for trains, underground and buses if you're leaving the car at home

Plan your visit

Is this a good place to take young children?

It's a live music venue built around whatever gig is on, not an attraction designed for kids, so it really depends on the show and the age of your children.

Can we bring a buggy or pushchair?

It'll be difficult. The building's a heritage listed site with a lot of stairs and no lift.

Is there wheelchair access?

No. The site says there's no wheelchair access because of the stairs and the heritage status of the building.

How do we get there without driving?

Glasgow Central and Queen Street train stations are both a short walk away, St Enoch's underground is a few hundred metres off, and Buchanan Bus Station is about ten minutes on foot.
