What it’s like

Small-scale farm play for toddlers and young kids, with pedal tractors, a sand pit and animals to feed and pet.

This is one for the pushchair years rather than the big-slide-chasing crowd. Kids feed and pet sheep, goats, ducks and chickens, have a go at milking a cow, and there's a miniature farm and a craft table if anyone needs a sit down. The pedal tractors and sand pit look like the bits a three-year-old would refuse to leave.

With ages pitched at 1 to 6, this isn't trying to be an all-day-out for older siblings who want more of a challenge. It reads as the sort of place you'd drop in for a morning, let the toddler have a proper go at everything, then head off before nap time wins.

Birthday parties run Saturdays and Sundays, April to September only, so a winter birthday is out. It's £275 for up to 24 children, 1 hour 45 minutes from 10:30am, and that covers all the activities and animal encounters. Food comes from The Compass Inn as an optional extra at £4 a child, and you'll need to bring your own cake since they don't provide one.

The deposit is £75 to book and it's non-refundable if you change your mind, which stings a bit if plans shift, though if they cancel on you it's a full refund including the deposit. It's a few minutes off the M4 at junction 18, so it's an easy one to fit in without a trek across the county.
