What it’s like
Walk the paddocks to meet the alpacas, have a go at feeding them, then warm up in the cafe with cake.
The main event here is simply walking round to see the alpacas up close, with feeding on offer and a wander trail and quiz to keep kids looking rather than just wandering past. There's also needle felting and other craft workshops if you want to sit down for a bit in between paddocks. It's all outdoors, so wellies on if it's been raining, and there's no age range given, which suggests it suits most kids happy to walk a paddock loop rather than being aimed at a specific age.
Entry itself is free, which is the sort of detail that makes you want to check twice, but the site lists it plainly. You'll likely end up spending in the cafe anyway, since they don't allow you to bring your own food or drink other than baby food. That's a bit of a faff if you've got a fussy toddler, but the cafe does hot food, cakes and light meals, with wine and cider for the grown ups. Just don't turn up at half two starving for a hot lunch, as hot food service stops at 2:15pm.
It's open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so don't plan a Monday visit on a whim. There's no need to book for a small family group, you can just walk in, though bigger cafe groups of four or more need a table booking with a small non-refundable deposit per person. Parking's free with 35 to 45 spaces and a couple of disabled bays, and there's a bus stop five minutes' walk away if you're coming without a car.
Dogs aren't allowed on site beyond the public footpath, which makes sense once you remember alpacas spook easily. Worth knowing before you load the dog into the car out of habit.
