What it’s like

Three woodland walks through mixed forest, with unsurfaced tracks that get steep in places.

There's a choice of three walks here, all through mixed woodland on forest tracks. It's easy walking rather than a proper hike, which suits a family with a dog and a buggy that can handle rough ground, though the tracks aren't surfaced and get steep in places, so a heavy pushchair might struggle on the steeper stretches.

Dogs are welcome, but they need to be kept under control and not allowed to foul the footpaths. There are dog foul bins at the trailhead, which is a nice touch if you've forgotten a bag.

Parking's free, and there's a picnic area if you fancy bringing a flask and something to eat rather than turning it into a full day trip. Just bear in mind that walks can be diverted or closed from time to time, so it's worth having a second route in mind if your favourite one is shut.
