What it’s like

A sandy stretch by the country park where you can dig, paddle and let the day drift, with free parking on hand.

A proper sandy beach rather than a shingle strip, which makes it an easy sell for anyone with a bucket and spade in the car. There's no big attraction here beyond the sand itself, and honestly that's the point: it's a place to dig, paddle at the edge and wander rather than tick off rides or activities.

Parking is free at the country park, which takes the sting out of a spontaneous visit, and there's a café nearby if you need a coffee or an ice cream to break the day up. Toilets are on site too, so you're not planning the visit around a dash back to the car.

It's wheelchair accessible, which is worth knowing if you're pushing a buggy as well, since sand can be a struggle but the approach here has clearly been thought about. There's no set way to spend your time, so a couple of hours pottering suits a toddler just as well as it does older kids who want to build something more ambitious out of the sand.
