What it’s like

A council building in Newtownabbey with a café upstairs, worth knowing about for a coffee stop rather than a big day out.

This one's not a model village or a miniature railway despite where it's filed. It's Mossley Mill, a council building that houses Yarn's Kitchen, a first-floor café doing fresh hot food on weekdays. There's a toilet on site, which matters more than it sounds once you've got a little one who's just announced they need to go.

It's only open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, and shut at weekends, so this isn't a Saturday plan. The café itself only runs until 3pm, so if you're aiming for lunch you'll want to get there well before closing. It also closes for a run of public holidays through the year, including St Patrick's Day and both Easter and Spring bank holidays, so a quick check of the calendar saves a wasted trip.

Given the opening hours, this reads more like a weekday stop with a toddler in tow, maybe on the way to or from somewhere else, than a destination you'd build a whole day around. There's not much here to occupy older kids for long, but a hot meal and a clean toilet on a weekday afternoon count for something.
