Breakout Manchester Newton Street
WHERE
Manchester
What it’s like
An hour locked in a themed room in central Manchester, working as a team to crack puzzles before the clock runs out.
You've got sixty minutes, a locked room and a pile of puzzles that only make sense once someone spots the thing everyone else missed. Breakout's rooms are built for teams of three or four, five at a push, and the site's honest that only about half of teams actually get out. That's not a bad thing. It means the puzzles have teeth, and the bit your kids will remember is the scramble in the last ten minutes when everything suddenly clicks.
This isn't one for younger children. The puzzle complexity rules out under 10s, and it's really a game for kids who can read confidently and think logically under a bit of pressure, working alongside adults rather than off on their own. A basic level of written English and numbers gets you through, so it's less about cleverness and more about staying calm and talking to each other.
The Newton Street site is smack in the centre of town, a short walk from Piccadilly Gardens and about ten minutes from Piccadilly station, which makes it an easy one to bolt onto a day already in Manchester. Booking ahead is required, there's no just turning up on the day. One genuine catch: there's no wheelchair or lift access, and you're looking at around 28 steps up to the games.

Plan your visit
How long does a game take?
An hour, once you're locked in. The rooms are built around that sixty-minute limit.
Do we need to book in advance?
Yes, booking is required. You cannot just turn up and expect a room to be free.
Is it suitable for young kids?
Not really, the puzzles are too complex for under 10s. It works best with a team who can read well and reason together.
Is there parking nearby?
Plenty of options on street and in multi-storeys, with the nearest NCP at M4 1PD. It's also a short walk from Piccadilly Gardens tram and bus station.
Can we book it for a birthday or party?
They say yes to birthdays, hen and stag dos, anniversaries and pretty much any occasion under the sun.
