What it’s like
Goats, pigs and alpacas to feed and walk, plus a playground with a bouncy castle and ride-on tractors near York.
The animals are the point here. Goats, pigs, turkeys, rabbits and alpacas are all up for a feed, and there's an alpaca walk through the fields with a handler if your kids fancy leading one about rather than just poking a hand through a fence. Feed bags are sold in the shop, so you don't need to bring anything yourself.
Once the animal bit's done there's an adventure playground with a bouncy castle, sand pit and ride-on tractors, which is where you'll likely lose an hour without noticing. Worth knowing that if the ground's waterlogged the playground can close for safety, so a run of wet days before your visit might mean that part's off limits. There's an indoor activity room and a café for when the weather turns, so a rainy day doesn't write off the whole trip.
Pricing is fair for a full day out: £6 for a child midweek, £7.50 at weekends, with family tickets bringing the per-head cost down further. Under 2s get in free. It's shut on Tuesdays outside school holidays, which catches people out if you're planning a term-time visit, so check the day before you set off. Seasonal stuff runs through the year too, pumpkin picking and a ghost hunt trail in autumn, Santa's grotto in December by timed slot, and Beetlefest in mid-August.
It suits toddlers up to about age 10 well. Paths are pram-friendly and the farm's partially wheelchair accessible, though not fully. Parking's free, and the café does breakfast and lunch with local ingredients if you're making a day of it.
