What it’s like
Free weekly sessions for babies and toddlers, plus Lego and Chess clubs for the school-age crowd.
This is the sort of library where the week has a rhythm. Under-ones get Rattle, Rhyme and Roll on Friday mornings, under-threes get their own version on Wednesdays, and Adventures in Music runs Thursday mornings in term time for the 2 to 5s. Storyhullabaloo is in there too, for under fives and their grown-ups, mixing stories and rhymes.
Once they're a bit older there's Lego Club on Saturday mornings, 10.30 to midday, though the site's clear that an adult needs to stay and supervise rather than drop and go. Chess Club runs too, if you've got one who's past the "eating the pieces" stage.
Everything's free, including joining up, and the wifi doesn't need a library card either. There are bookable computers if you need to get something printed or sorted while you're there, though study space is limited so it's not somewhere to bank on a desk showing up. The building's step-free both outside and in, and there's a car park on Foster Avenue plus two bike parking bays right outside if you're cycling over.
Hours are fairly generous for a library, open every day except Sunday, and Tuesday runs late until 7. Saturday's a shorter 9 to 4 window, which is also when Lego Club is on, so if you're coming for that you're not making a special extra trip.
