What it’s like
Friday evenings looking through a 16 inch telescope, with beginners' sessions running from September to June.
Friday nights here are for beginners: turn up, look through the 16 inch Newtonian/Cassegrain telescope, and get shown around the smaller ones too. It runs from September through to June, so it's a term-time thing rather than a summer one, which makes sense given how late the sky gets dark in July.
A family ticket for two adults and any number of under-18s is £3 on a Friday, which is about as cheap as an evening out gets. Wednesday nights are different, they're lecture nights rather than viewing nights, and non-member adults pay £4 to sit in on those. If your kids are more interested in actually looking through a telescope than listening to a talk, Friday is the one to go for.
There's no upper age limit worth worrying about and nothing here that needs a booking, from what's listed. It suits kids old enough to stand still and be patient waiting their turn at the eyepiece, which probably rules out the very youngest, but there isn't a stated minimum age.
