What it’s like

Weekly gymnastics classes from baby massage right up to obstacle courses for pre-teens, plus Saturday holiday camps you can just drop and go.

Babies start with massage and yoga, toddlers get parent and child sessions on the mats, and by the time they're three they're doing a full hour of gymnastics-based activity and obstacle courses on their own. It's not a competitive set-up, the site is clear about that, so it suits a child who wants to climb and tumble rather than chase a medal.

Sessions run on Saturdays, 9am to 1pm, which means the whole week's timetable is squeezed into one morning. Parent and child classes are 45 minutes and you're in the gym with them; from age three the classes stretch to an hour and you can leave a confident child to it, though they suggest staying with the younger ones in case of a toilet dash. Weekly classes run £67.50, which feels steep until you realise that's likely covering a term rather than a single visit, and there's a £35 annual family membership on top that gets you into most of their events for free.

If you just want a taster without committing to a weekly slot, the holiday camps are open to members and non-members alike. A half day is £23.50, a full day £35, and there's a multi-sport full day at £70 if your child wants variety. Camps are proper drop-off, they'll ring you if there's a problem and otherwise it's yours to spend as you like.

Parking is free at the Waterworld car park, though you do need to put your number plate in when you arrive. Birthday parties are the other string to this place, with three packages from £275 to £360 for ten guests, and members get £30 off, which is worth knowing if you're already paying the family membership anyway.
